Queries About Security on File System Connector

Hi all,

Would appreciate if you can advise or shed some lights on the subject.

Recently I need to use the File System Connector to get data from an excel in my company's on-prem shared folder. Before we can do that, for security purpose, we need to be cleared about the following first:

I notice there is only Get File Content action from this connector, which I assume it is the one that send all the data from excel to PowerApps, instead of selected records. Does it mean all the data in the excel will be exposed in the cloud? How secure will it be actually? Can't seems to find any security related information on the data transfer or the file transfer protocol.

Understood it will go through on-prem gateway between PowerApps and our shared drive. But what we want to ensure is the connector will not compromise our security and exposing the content of our data to the internet.

Appreciate your o

    HI @Eagerboy ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Firstly, the "Get File Content" action of File System connector is used to get the file content (in Binary format) from the specific file stored in your local Network folder.

When using the "Get File Content" action of File System connector to get file content, you would get file content in Binary format rather than actual file content.

In addition, the On-premises Data Gateway has its own Security Data Transfer Mechanism. Please check the following article for more details:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-onprem-indepth

Connectors released within PowerApps are actually a collection HTTP Rest API action paths. When you run the "Get File Content" action of File System connector in your app/flow, it actually send a HTTP Request call to underlying File System server. Connector itself has its own authentication mechanism, only user with proper access permission could call "Get File Content" action request.

    Best regards,

    Hi @v-xida-msft ,

Thanks for the information. Apparently I got mix up in the beginning on the file system connector and FTP connector. The link is very useful. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Eagerboy.
