Power BI PowerApps visual - "Choose App".. PowerBiIntegration not working!?

Is it even possible to embed a pre-existing Power App within Power BI and have its PowerBIIntegration work correctly?

I have an existing Power App created in PowerApps Studio. I would like to embed it within PowerBI using its "Power Apps for Power BI" visualization and pass a few values to it from Power BI.

Here's what I tried:

  • add the visualization to the Power BI page
  • add some fields to the "PowerApps Data" section under Visualizations..
  • click "Choose app"..
  • I'm presented with a list of my existing apps, and I chose the one mentioned above.
  • I'm presented with "Almost done.. Save your app in PowerApps Studio to finalize the data connection."
  • I click on "Go to PowerApps Studio"
  • I click "OK" on the "Open Browser" dialog that then pops up.
  • I can now see a "PowerBIIntegration" component added to my Tree view.
  • I click File -> Save
  • I am prompted to Publish the Power App and I do.
  • I set a gallery's Items property to PowerBIIntegration.Data
  • The only available property ThisItem.IsSelected.
  • In PowerApps Studio, I then try File -> Close
  • I then reopen the Power App but am still unable to see any properties aside from IsSelected, like above.

am I missing an obvious step somewhere? I know that I can create a "New App" from within Power BI and all works as desired with respect to the PowerBIIntegration component. Unfortunately, that is just not an option for us.

Thanks,

Michael

    It's 8 a.m., and I'm back at it!
    I just tested adding the following label to my existing PowerApp (from the OP) that isn't displaying PowerBIIntegration data successfully as well as the one created via "New App" within Power BI:

    Label1.Text = "Number of Items: " & CountRows(Gallery1.AllItems)

    Both are showing the correct # of Rows. The pre-existing PowerApp just isn't seeing the PowerBIIntegration data properties/columns/whatever they're called... I can copy/paste from the working PowerApp into the pre-existing one but will only see the red squiggly lines under the property name which if ignored still won't be rendered when running the Power App.

    Example Label:

    I'm seeing the correct # of rows from Power BI into my Power App but the properties available on the ThisItem object are still missing.. Am I missing a key step in the process above? Is my scenario just not supported?

    Thanks!
