Attach file url to record instead of uploading

HI,

 

My form "form1" is connected to a SharePoint list, I need the option of attaching documents which are located on SharePoint in the shared documents folder. when I use the attach field it uploads the documents into the SharePoint list but to save disk space I need a way of not uploading it but to just reference the file location so when the user clicks on the attachment it opens it from the location within the shared documents folder. 

 

any ideas?

    You mention that the files are on SharePoint in a "shared documents folder," which I'll assume is a library. Here's an option:

     

    1. Add a column in the list that is connected to your form - this will house the URL of the shared document.
    2. Add that column to your form. Delete the control that gets added (most-likely a text box).
    3. Add the library as a data source to your app.
    4. Then to your form, in the data card where you just deleted the default control in, insert a combo box.
    5. Set the combo box's IsSearchable() property to true. Set its Datasource() property to the name of your document library. Set its SelectMultiple() property to false. Edit its fields and set the Primary text and SearchFields to whatever you want to display in the combo box and whatever field you want to search through.
    6. Set the data card that houses the combo box's Update() property to ComboboxName.Selected.'Link to Item'
