Custom Connectors: Delegable in Power Apps?

I'd like to build a custom connector for an ERP system to build a CRM app. There is no off-the-rack connector, so I'd  have to build the custom connector from scratch. The ERP system has a REST API.

There would be well over 2,000 records, so I'd need the data to be able to use the delegation functionality. I can't ascertain from the documentation whether or not custom connectors are delegable or not...

Is data from custom connectors delegable with the supported operators?

    Hi @oguruma ,

I created a custom connector and using graph api to test and I found that it's delegable. (api - https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/users)

Then I researched some blogs which stated that not all custom connectors support delegation...

So I think you won't know if it supports delegation unless you actually create and test it.

Finally, don't worry if it doesn't support delegation because you can save them to collection when you call the api.

Once the data are stored in collection, it will support any query.

    Hope it make sense.

I'm not sure a Collection is the best solution... Wouldn't a collection have to be stored locally on the device? What happens if there are hundreds of thousands of records?

    Hi @oguruma ,

The data in the collection is kept in powerapps' memory. It is not saved in the hard drive of the device.

In addition, you should avoid things that generate thousands of records.

Whether it's fetched directly from APIs or saved to collections, it won't have a good performance.

Since I can't test your API, I don't know if it supports delegation. Hopefully it supports it.

Well, I'd venture a guess many (most?) CRMs have thousands of Lead records... The benefit of delegation is that the server can do the query, is it not? I'm not advocating for a specific query returning thousands of records, but the query might involve thousands of records......

How does one determine if an API/Connector will support delegation? I haven't found any documentation that gives specifics as to whether or not a connector/API will actually support it, other than listing a few things that do support it...

    Hi @oguruma ,

Yeah, you are right. Unfortunately, I didn't find the relevant documentation either. So I suggest you create a custom connector first and test it to check if it supports delegation.

If it supports that is the best result. If it doesn't, then we can consider other workaround such as collection, flow...

    Best Regards,

    Wearsky
