converting xls to xlsx has stopped working and is now changing existing xlsx files to xlsxx

Hi Community,

For some time I have been regularly using power automate desktop to convert multiple xls files to xlsx in a specific folder. Suddenly now Power Automate is converting the existing .xlsx files to .xlsxx, despite me using *.xls in the Get files in folder Action.

I am scratching my head on this one:

output variables from running above Action:

any suggestions?

Hi @dangerous_dan

Just noticed this issue, the file filter *.xls filter is pulling both xlsx and xls file , in actual it shouldn't do that.

I am not sure whether this is a bug which need to resolved out, as the file filter *.xls should pick up the xls files only not xlsx files.

So currently i would suggest to use condition in loop while renaming to check whether the file extension is xls or xlsx , if xls allow renaming, else not 🙂

Give a try that way.

and If you are able to recreate this problem, how do we report it as a bug?

You can't just add x to the end. It doesn't work. The extension is defined by the extension dropdown. The filepath and filename are defined in the path field. So, you have to input Path as the following:

%CurrentItem.Directory%\%CurrentItem.NameWithoutExtension%

The whole Close Excel part looks like this:

You would think this would make sense with saving Document format as xlsx ............. BUT if you don't add the %CurrentItem%x variable then it still saves it as .xls (I originally tried what you suggested ages ago)

Even i am facing same issue with extension, I think this issue was in earlier versions as well
