Can a Primary Column be a number of must it be a text? I have a vehicle fleet ID'd by numbers.
@RJF61 - a Primary Name column can either be Text or Auto-Number.
You could still include your IDs in the Text field, but they will be read as Text. Depending on what you want to do, you could convert the Text field into a Number type in Power Apps/Power BI.

For your requirement to store vehicle fleet ID, the primary column can stay as text field because it allows alphanumeric characters to be entered.
Even if it wasn't a primary field, I wouldn't recommend using IDs as number field. The number columns are used where you need to do calculations/operations such as sum and average etc. A simple text column should suffice in your case.
