The edit bar above where you put code for control properties is often greyed out and not available for a long time. What property of my app (besides being large) could cause this behaviour? If work on a modern pc with lots of memory.
The bar which you are telling is the one in which the things will be grayed out.
You can do nothing about it.

this is a known issue even to microsoft, it happens to me every now and then. the only thing i saw that helps is closing it, wait a few minutes and try again.
