Running a macros in invisible mode

Hi All,

Running macros in invisible mode gives error, does it have to visible ?

Please note macros is in personal workbook, works perfectly but only in visible mode.

No sir, mine worked in visible mode:

I did run into 2 possible issues trying to set this up.

1) you have to Save and Close the Excel Instance. You can't see the Excel Instance, so you can't save it.

2) The macro workbook has to be in a trusted place, so the "enable content" warning does not appear, or the warnings have to be turned off.

So does mine, was asking if it works in " invisible " 😁

Running in " invisible " gives me this error...

I meant invisible.😂😂😂. I wonder if your personal xlsb isn’t accessible in invisible mode. Try saving your personal workbook out there as an xlsm and rerunning in invisible mode against the xlsm. Good luck.

Changing from xlsb to xlsm, will that mess up anything as im reluctant, its got all my macros....not that I dont trust you 😍

Was hoping to achieve what Power Query can do, refreshing a query from umpteen workbooks without opening them. Ive got circa 20 workbooks that need refreshing a couple of times a week, thought it would be quicker when they are hidden / invisible plus allowing me to do other stuff without inadvertently interfering with the flow.

Ooooh just thought of something, all my workbooks etc are in OneDrive, make a difference ?
Ooooh part 2, what about if I do have to open the workbooks, could I minimise, not tried that one yet, although something tells me it will open maximised / previous state and then minimise.

Well when I said save your personal workbook, I meant save as. So your personal.xlsb should still exist where it always had. You would just use the xlsm for this one instance.

im hoping one drive isn’t the issue, but who knows.

Think I will revisit this one another time, I made of copy of my personal workbook, so one with xlsm, other xlsb.
Every Excel I open manually gives the below shot, this is before I ran the automation.
Might be OneDrive, thanks anyway Mike 😁

You may need to change the name. If opening Excel opens your Personal.xlsb, it may not allow you to also open Personal.xlsm. The extensions our different, but the workbook name is the same, and I’m pretty sure, you can’t have two workbooks open with the same name.

Youre right, I thought with different extensions it wouldnt matter 🙄

Hello,
Wondering if you ever found a solution for this.

I'm having the exact same issue, where I want to run a Macro on an Excel instance which I want to not be visible so I can work on different things without interrupting the flow but if I hide the instance and the macro gets executed, it gives an error.
Whereas no issues when the instance is visible.

I have an upward of 700+ files (that will continue to grow) and would like to run the Macro without Excel opening up again and again.
