Have an excel template that is used by "Create New Doc/Item" on a sharepoint site.
From the specific doctype list, User picks Create New - sees the drop down of docs - selects Topic1Template.xlsx option on dropdown
First attempted solution/approach -
- There are prompts for custom columns on CreateItem dialog- CustCol1, CustCol2, CustCol3, CustCol4, CustCol5,
- then the template is opened (online Excel workbook).
- Cells B1, B2, B3, B4, and B7 should = the same values as CustCol1, CustCol2, CustCol3, CustCol4, CustCol5 respectively.
2 Questions:
- Is there a way to push of the individual CustColX values to the appropriate cells so the user doesn't have to type the values 2x.
- Is there a way to use a combination of the CustColX values to build a conventionalized file name when the rest of the template has been completed/filled in and have it auto save without looking like some version of the template
We also had users fill out template first (no cust column value prompts) and then looked for some kind of script to push the values out of the xls to the list item custom columns (because there seemed to be no way to make the first attempt work). Scripting seems to be wildly different for online xls vs. what business team are used to. Any suggestions as to how we can accomplish either of these approaches if possible?
