Back Deploy from Production

I have a problem and I’m hoping someone can provide some guidance. I created three environments - Dev, test, prod. I created a solution in Dev, exported it as a managed solution and imported it into Test and Prod. Then, someone spent months developing in Prod—creating solution layers on all of the components.

I’d like to back deploy from Prod to Dev so that Dev has the latest development, but I don’t seem to be able to export the managed solution from Prod. Any advice how I can get the two environments back in sync? (Apart from user training…)

    Hello, @FlowHawk ,

If you want to export an managed solution into an unmanaged solution, I afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently, and this is by design.

As best practice, you should minimize any developing activities in Prod and use Dev for developing.

Believe me, I understand why you shouldn't develop in Prod. But we find ourselves in this situation regardless.

The closest I could get (for the benefit of anyone else searching for an answer) was to create an unmanaged solution in Prod and add the apps and flows from the managed solution to the unmanaged solution, export and import back into dev. I had to leave out any connection references from Prod to avoid errors. Upon import to Dev, the apps saved over the dev apps and brought their updates with them. Then I added the existing connection references from Dev back to the solution.

That's as close as I could get to a back-deploy. I wish the tools would either TRULY not allow customizations to a managed solution, or allow a back-deploy of a managed solution to an unmanaged solution in a dev environment.

I like your solution and will try it I believe.  I want to sync all 3 environments.

I think I will restore DEV and TEST to some previous date before the last PROD deploy date to make sure that the PROD unmanaged solution components are the latest.

Thanks for the post and solution.
