A Zombie Default Admin Group of SharePoint Site

Hi, our team is encountering not receiving access request issue due to a zombie default SharePoint access group.

Can anyone kindly help or give some advice?

That SharePoint access group is deleted several months ago. However, in the Access Requests Settings, the system still set it as the default owner group. And since that group is deleted and no member exists insides, so no one is receiving access request. We did one experiment, we created a new group having same group name as the deleted one. "Asset Management Admins", having a new developer as its group member. However, access request does not go to that developer's mail box, it goes to someone who was a member of the deleted group.

What's the trouble of this issue?

The field below the default admin group only allows filling one email address to receive access request.

This causes trouble when that person is out-of-office, and add extra SP maintenance workload.

The following screenshot is all the groups of this SP site.

How to change the default access management group?

or how to thoroughly delete the previous "Asset Management Admin" group?

Any advice/ workaround is welcome!

Warm Regards,

XC

Have you tested to make sure that its not a typo? In other words have someone create an access request and see if the Asset Management Owners group receives it.  Also if the SharePoint site was created with M365 groups then Owners group should have an email address of its own that you could use in the email address entry. The email would go to the Owners email and be forwarded to each owner.

    Hi Pstork1,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Our SharePoint Online Team  have confirmed that this is an issue with site upgraded from Teams. The site template cannot be changed once provisioned. The only option to fix it for now is to create a new site collection and migrate all content from the current site to the new site. Of course, URL will be changed if we do this.

    Thanks,

    XC
