What is API Calls in CDS ?

Hello,

 

I see every connectors are having limitation for the API Calls which I have assumed that calling the connection via connector would be considered "1 API call" , if that understanding is correct, does it mean that calling CDS entity == 1 API call to CDS ?

 

Can anyone please clarify my understanding?
