How to create a new item in a blank new list using power automate?

Hi,

How to create first list item in a blank list? I have tried "create item "action but that doesn't solve my requirement. I have to check whether the list is empty or not, is yes then MS Flow should create a item.

"Send and http" action does not work on blank list . It throws error if the list is empty.

Please help!

Hi @PowerUser0,

You could use a Get Items action and check the length of the value property. If the length is 0 it means it is empty.

Below is an example of that approach.

length(outputs('Get_items')?['body/value'])

Hi @PowerUser0,

You can use a create item action for that. Put that in the if yes section.

Hi @PowerUser0,

Can you share a screenshot of how you configured the Send an HTTP request to SharePoint action?

And just to double check. The bit of checking if the list is empty and creating the item is now working? Because in your screenshot I don't see any get items or condition action 🙂

My list is empty for now, if the create new item is fixed the i will use the if condition.

Hi @PowerUser0,

I see you are using a variable for the Item ID in URI field of the Send an HTTP request to SharePoint action. Which value is in there or where are you updating that value in your flow?

I am assuming you want to use the id of the earlier created item, correct?

Yes, that is correct. You can use the id from the create item action.
