Centre of Excellence - "App Deleted" and "App Deleted On" discrepancy

Hello Power Apps community,

I hope you can help please.

We've just installed the excellent "Centre of Excellence" model-driven app. Unfortunately, we're seeing some conflicting data. I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction please.

There are two fields:

"App Deleted" schema name "admin_appdeleted" of Data Type "Two Options"

"App Deleted On" schema name "admin_appdeletedon" of Data Type "Date and Time"

We have a canvas app that, in the Centre of Excellence, shows as "App Deleted" = "No", yet in the "App Deleted On" field we're seeing a date and time.

When I look in https://admin.powerapps.com/ I see the app is still available.

So my question is, what's gone wrong here please? If the app exists, why is it showing a value in the "App Deleted On" field?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Garry

    Hi @Anonymous,

I tried it on one of my instances and getting the same results, seems like a known issues. I would rely on the "App Deleted" rather than the date. I would suggest to raise a defect (support request) at Microsoft to fix this glitch on https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/support

    Cheers

    Hello @EricRegnier,

Thanks for the reply. That's the second question you've answered for me in two days! Much appreciated.

In the "App Deleted" field, did it then change to "Yes" when you deleted it? As we're deleting apps and checking the COE record the next day, but still seeing the field "App Deleted" with the value of "No".

I must be doing something wrong here.

    Thanks,

    Garry

Would it be possible to share a screenshot? Thanks

    Hello @EricRegnier,

Sorry for the delayed reply. See screenshot below. This app has not been deleted.

    App deleted on.jpg

Now I will delete this app from our environment, yet tomorrow when I check the "App Deleted" field, it will still show as "No".

    Thanks,

    Garry

    Hi @Anonymous,

I installed the latest CoE solution in a brand new environment to ensure I don't introduce you to errors. The "App Deleted" and "App Deleted On" only support Canvas Apps and not Model-Driven apps (these fields do not even appear in any default views/dashboards!). Furthermore, I opened the Power Automate flow that does the canvas apps synchronization and it only checks for deleted apps when a new app is created. This is by design with the out-of-the-box Microsoft solution. This means that if no canvas app is created after another app gets deleted, you will never see the canvas app as deleted. Also important to note that the "App Deleted On" field is not the date when the app was deleted but the date when the flow ran and detected that the app was deleted. For example, if a canvas app was deleted on April 26th, a new app was created on May 5th, the app deleted on will show May 5th, because that's when the flow triggered and checked for deleted apps.

The flow name is "Admin | Sync Template v2 (Apps)" if you want look at the logic. You can also create additional custom flows to improve the logic to trigger on delete and to monitor deleted apps for Model-Driven apps.

    Hope this all makes sense!

    Hello @EricRegnier,

Superb investigation work. Thanks so much for doing that. There's loads of good things you found out, especially that the app deleted date is when the flow ran for a new app. If I'd have noticed that I'd have wasted many hours trying to figure out why the date is different.

Unfortunately our COE environment is still acting strange where we see that the "App Deleted" field is "No", yet we know the app has been deleted and we would have create another new canvas app that would have triggered the flow.

We've decided to delete our current COE environment, do a bit of homework as to how it all works using this link, and then install it again. It's a brilliant product, we just need to understand it better.

Thanks for all your help on this!

Glad it helped a little.  Are you sure the Power Automate flow ran? You can check in the run history. Maybe it wasn't active or an error occurred... Suggest to provision a trial/sandbox environment and have a play with it and open up the flows. I think it would be the best way to understand it.

    All the best!
