Attachment won't open in outlook

Hi!

I've been trying to create a flow which takes responses form a form, uses them to populate a template, creates a new document from that template and emails the document to the person who submitted the form.

My flow works except that when I try and open the attachment from outlook I get the following error messages:

When I try to open the document from Windows Explorer there are no issues with it.

Any idea where I might be going wrong?

In your Send an email action - Are you sure you should be adding your file content inside a base64 expression? I'd assume it's already in the correct format. I'd also confirm that you have the correct file extension (docx) as part of your file name.

I think so (sorry I'm quite new to this!). If I look at the box in the attachments Item it says:

]

The document is also named in .docx format.

It looks like you're only sending the one attachment via email which is the output of the Word Template.

In that case, you can just use the output directly from the Microsoft Word document as shown below.

Or, if you wanted to create a new file from the Word Template and use that content, you can do the following.

Thanks agian. For some reason using that flow I get the same issue. I wonder if perhaps it could be an issue with the word template itself rather than the automate flow so might be worth creating it again from scratch to see if that helps!

It doesn't seem to be an issue with the word file as if I attach it in an email outside of the Automate Flow the file opens perfectly from Excel so I'm not sure what it is in the flow causing the issue

I have done some more experimenting on this. There defintely seems to be an issue with how the flow is attaching the document.

If I save the attachment and try and open it outside of outlook I get the same error messages however if I open the underlying file directly (i.e. the version created by the Create File task rather than the attachment version) it opens perfectly.

Any other ideas?

Did you try to just use the output from the Populate a Microsoft Word template? I'd also try typing the name of the file including the extension (.docx) manually as I've done below to confirm it's correct.
