Issue with Updating .URL File Content in SharePoint

When I update the content of a .URL file in SharePoint, such as modifying the URL within the file, the changes appear to be successful when I download the file. However, the problem arises when I click on the .URL file directly within SharePoint. It continues to redirect me to the old URL instead of the updated one.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have already undertaken:

  1. Leveraging HTTP PUT and Update File in Power Automate: I utilized Power Automate to perform an HTTP PUT request and update the content of the .URL file programmatically. The process was successful, and I verified that the updated content is correctly reflected when downloading the file.

  2. Cleared SharePoint cache: To ensure that I am accessing the most recent version of the .URL file, I cleared the cache in my web browser. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue.

  3. Waiting for synchronization: Recognizing that SharePoint may require time to synchronize changes across its infrastructure, I allowed a reasonable amount of time for the update to propagate. Regrettably, the updated .URL file content remains unrecognized within the SharePoint interface.

  4. Reviewed SharePoint settings: I carefully examined the SharePoint settings related to file handling, caching, and document libraries. I ensured that all configurations were correct, without any specific settings that would impede the update of .URL file content.

Despite these diligent efforts, I have been unable to identify the root cause of the problem or discover a suitable resolution. It appears that there might be an underlying SharePoint behavior or caching mechanism that is preventing the updated .URL file content from being recognized when accessing the file directly within SharePoint.

I kindly request the assistance of the community to shed light on this matter. If any of you have faced a similar challenge or possess insights into potential solutions, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Your expertise and suggestions would be immensely valuable in helping me overcome this hurdle.

To summarize:

  • Modifying the .URL file content via Power Automate and downloading the file reflects the desired changes.
  • However, when accessing the .URL file directly within SharePoint, the old URL persists, even though the updated content is visible when downloaded.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my issue. Any advice, suggestions, or experiences shared would be immensely appreciated.
