Building Approval Flows Without Using Approvals Action in Power Automate

Hi,

I am trying to build an approval flow (Approve/Reject) without using the Approvals action. I am developing this and providing access to users as guests from a different domain that have not yet rolled out O365 and enabled Power Automate (hence they are enable to approve/reject in either the email or in the Approvals Center).

It is a two stage sequential approval.

I have been looking at multiple blogs and videos and it appears that using the 'initialize variable' action may work and then using the switch command (Approve/Reject)?

Flow Process

Resource Request received in SP List > Email to Approver 1

Approver 1 either approves/rejects request

If Approver 1 approves request >email to Approver 2> SP list updated with approval from Approver 1

Approver 2 either approves/rejects request

If Approver 2 approves request>email to requester telling them that the resource request has been approved>SP list updated with approval from Approver 2.

Any help would be appreciated!

Many thanks

    Hi @milanb ,

As far as I know, we can only use Approval action and Send an email with options action to create Approval request.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what action you will use to achieve your needs, please provide more details so that we can understand your needs.

    Best Regards,

    Hi @v-bacao-msft

I have used send an email with options (see flow below).

However, the issue I am now having is that I am getting the error 'Actions in this flow may result in an infinite trigger loop. Please ensure you add appropriate conditional checks to prevent the flow from triggering itself', when I am trying to update the response in the SharePoint list <Authoriser 1>

I am unsure of the condition to use and at which stage of the flow I should use it (am assuming it will be after 'send email with options' action?

    Thanks Milan

    Hi @milanb ,

Because the trigger you set conflicts with the Update item action.

After the Update item action is executed, Flow will be triggered again. Because trigge will detect whether the item has been modified.

    Best Regards,
