When I try and publish a canvas App prior to Exporting a Solution from Test to Production, I get this error.

I have tried to create a new Environmental Variable (new_shared_sharepointonline_687bd7aabd154caeb4a19e568ff90ac9), but it just hangs.

The request failed with error: '{"error":{"code":"0x8004f036","message":"The dependent component EnvironmentVariableDefinition (Id=new_shared_sharepointonline_687bd7aabd154caeb4a19e568ff90ac9) does not exist. Failure trying to associate it with CanvasApp (Id=c5e2aafe-681c-40f3-9e79-06e0e5cd1fda) as a dependency. Missing dependency lookup type = EntityNameLookup."}}'. The tracking Id is 'd4a138ff-cc9c-4abc-980c-3a820503425a'.

This is holding me up now making a canvas app live.

Do you have the necessary rights to the environment to create an environment variable?

If you do have the rights, while you still have the app open you can try manually creating an Environment variable with the requested name, "new_shared_sharepointonline_687bd7aabd154caeb4a19e568ff90ac9". Your other option is to manually create your own Environment variables that point to your SharePoint list and explicitly select it within your application instead of relying on the Studio to create it for you (method I prefer as I am a stickler for naming conventions).
