CDS TIME ZONE FAIL - CREATED ON DATE TIME

Hi all,

Today I realized that my app for staff members to login when they arrive to work show the wrong time zone.

I have created a entity called "Login" and that contains a picklist of names of the staff. In the app the staff members pick their name in the list in the morning and clikc the button "login". Then the CDS creates a record that for example "Maria" logged in 08.02am the 10th of December 2017  . This date record is automaticlly created by CDS through the CREATEDONDATETIME field.

However, today when Maria logged in she logged in 10.01.20am 2017-12-10. But in the records it says like this (7 hours earlier):

What is the formula you use?
And could it be that you time stamp is converted to UTC?
There are several threads on this forum concerning Time Zone issues. Here is one: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Discussion/Eastern-Time-Zone-Using-Now-Function/m-p/17833/highlight/true#M7705

    Hi!

    Thank you for your reply.

My problem is that I didnt write any formula at all. This is an automatic generated record that saves the time for last modified as you can see on my printscreen of the exported excel version. This is created by CDS automaticlly without me putting any formula.

So how do I change the time zone settings in general for the CDS?

Or can yourecommend to do a formula manually for exact same thing (check when was the last time this record was modified)?

    Hi Gog,

Thanks for reaching out - the Create Date Time is stored in UTC, but does get converted in some cases to the users timezone. Can you please confirm that if you view the field in your app it shows the date and time as you'd expect? Also, you can check the Data tab on your custom entity (web.powerapps.com > Entities > Select your entity > Data) and confirm it shows the time in your local timezone.

If you would like to always store it in a specific timezone and store it in that timezone, you can create a custom DateTime field on your entity and populate it when you create the record. We dont allow you to control how the Created Date Time is populated, it's a system field.

Regarding the Data Export - I've been able to reproduce your problem where it shows a different timezone, and I've reached out to the team that works in this area to understand it better - once I know I'll post back here.

    Thanks,

    Hi Cwesener,

Thank you so much for a very informative answer, and sorry for my delayed reply.

Yes, I confirm that when I check the Data tab on your custom entity (web.powerapps.com > Entities > Select your entity > Data)

it is correct, it shows the time in your local timezone.

But when I export the file, it shows wrong time. Right now it is 07:52 am the 28th of December, and in the exported excel file it shows 2017-12-27 17:52:21.3439578. So it is like 15 hours behind.

Do you have an update to this?

Thanks for confirming gog, for now I would recommend you use the Excel Add in (web.powerapps.com > Entities > Select your entity > Open in Excel) which will have the correct dates for you.

I've added @sabinn to the thread who is the PM in this area - he will be able to update to the plans for the bug.
