Get browser current scroll bar position

Hi!

I would like to find the current position of a Chrome Browser's scroll bar (the one on the right) to then utilise javascript like the below:

function ExecuteScript()

{

window.scrollTo(xpos, ypos);

}

Never used JavaScript before, so this is foreign to me.  I have tried document.body.scrollTop but it doesn't return a result, i'm not sure how to get the current xpos & ypos.

If anyone can help, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

    Hi @tbang3000

    Not sure of there is a way to get the current scroll bar position.

    I tried using the Desktop and Web recorder and none of them were able to spy/detect the scrollbars.

    Here is one way of scrolling which you can think of using.

    You can pass a number and using a loop call the Sendkeys those many times giving the same effect as scrolling to a particular position.

    This is just an example:

    I was able to scroll three times downwards by using the below combination inside the SendKeys

    {Down}
    {Down}
    {Down}

    You can write {Down} once and pass 3 so that DOWN is called 3 times (the loop logic that I mentioned above).

    Similarly I was also able to do a Page Down by using the below.
    {Next}

    Check out the different scrolling keys available.

    Make sure to Focus on the window pane before using the Sendkeys.

    Thanks, yes that is an awesome solution to be able to move the scroll bar down.  I want to however understand where the scroll bar is to be able to move it downwards X number of pixels.

    This solution will move the browser down, but the distance it moves down varies.

    The issue I am trying to resolve is to select dynamic elements that are extremely hard to identify for me, however that are always exactly X distance apart.  If I can just scroll down a certain distance from the starting point, ID where the next point is after I move the scroll bar down, then i'd be set.

    Thanks though, but this doesnt fix my issues unfortunately...

    Hi @tbang3000

    Do this manually

    - Press the down arrow or the page down button depending on where your desired element is.

    - count how many times you pressed the down arrow or the page down button

    Implement the same via PAD.

    Not sure of your requirements. What challenge do you think would be in implementing the above?

    Another option:

    Spy/Detect some other nearby element, click or focus on that element via PAD and via sendkeys like TAB go to your desired element.

    Thanks @VJR .  I have tried and tested the down functionality with Send Keys, the problem that I am finding is that the amount it goes down is inconsistent, it doesn't move the scroll bar downwards consistently. The scollbar element does not seem to be a selectable element to identify its position either, but I will see if I can use the Spy/Detect program.

    My intent though is to send mouse click over a desired element and always try and position the mouse cursor over these dynamic elements to click as I have issues identifying each one to send the mouse click directly to them.

    Does that help explain?

    Hi @tbang3000

     a few pointers on this

    -the mouse scroll is not inconsistent. It always scrolls a specific number of lines defined in the below mentioned setting (the first screenshot). So not sure how you are getting inconsistent results at your end.

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-smooth-scrolling

    - If the positions of the element are changing see if you are able play around with the attributes in the selectors and selecting a mix and match of them. For eg if it is a button and if the caption of the button is always the same (eg; Submit) then this value can be selected from the selectors.

    What is your desired interaction with the object on the site, since you have to scroll to them?

    As others have stated, you can use the Send Keys actions to move down the site, while looking for the elements.

    Focus text field on web page can also be used to move to a certain element, but it sounds like you are unable to specify a control for the element? Have you tried tweaking the control?

    Could you combine Send Keys with Move mouse to image, to interact with the desired object?

    Like:

    Loop (x-number of times)

      Send Keys: {Down}

      If Image

        Move mouse to image (send click after moving)

        Exit Loop

    Loop End
