trying to get value from a column based on text

i have originally used dropdown.selected."sharedpointcolumnname" however it is currently not an option at the moment since values has changed to text

so i have two columns

1) Fruits

2) Vegetables

in general it will return value that matches the row

example

Fruits Row1 Apple

Vegetables Row1 Potato

any help will be appreciated
