Delayed Combo box drop-down

Hi!

Is there a way to delay the Combo box drop-down from appearing until a minimum of e.g. 3 characters are typed into the Combo box? As a way to reduce the size of the drop-down and maybe even speed it up from loading an unnecessary amount of results before any character filtering is applied.

Thanks.

    Hi @rhiheu ,

    Not that I know of, but if the Items are formed in a Collection (rather than having to make a data source query every time a letter is typed), the speed issue largely goes away.

    @rhiheu

    This is currently not a feature of PowerApps.  Suggest you propose it in the ideas forum.  The most popular ideas get added to PowerApps by Microsoft.

    Hi @WarrenBelz, thanks for the suggestion however unfortunately the data source items are changing every minute with new ones being added and old ones being removed.

    Hi @mdevaney ok sure I'll suggest it there, thanks for letting me know.

    Hey all,

    I came up with a solution to this today. It is not perfect, but it works very well:

    //Put this code in the OnSelect Property of the button you use to navigate to the form screen.
    Navigate(YourScreenName, ScreenTransition.None, UpdateContext({locDontRunCmbOnChange: false}))

    //Set your combo box's OnSelect Property to this:
    UpdateContext({locDontRunCmbOnChange: true})

    //Set your combo box's OnChange Property to this:
    If(
     locDontRun,
     UpdateContext({locCmbOnChange: true})
    )

    //Put a transparent rectangle on the top of the screen and set its Visible Property to
    locCmbOnChange

    Finally, in the OnSelect Property of the Rectangle, above put the code you normally used in the OnChange Property of the combo box.

    Now, when they select the combo box, they will be able to interact with it. When they click anywhere else on the screen, the rectangle's OnSelect Property will fire, operating like a delayed OnChange Property of a Combo box.

    I hope that works well for everyone!
