Set default value for dropdown in a SharePoint list customised form

Hi all,

I need to set the default value of a drop-down field called "Stage of Work" to "1 - New" in a customised form I created from a SharePoint List (set as a 'Choice' column). The default is set in SharePoint but is not carrying over to the PowerApp customised form. Following other similar questions on this community forum, I set the datacard Default property to the following:

If(SharePointForm1.Mode=FormMode.New,
 {'@odata.type': "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
 Id: 0,
 Value: "1 - New"
 },
 ThisItem.'Stage of Work'
)

It works - very happy. My problem is I don't know what all that stuff about @odata through to Id and Value means. Can someone please explain? I want to know if I'm causing any consequences by doing this or if there is anything I should know? I want to reuse this for other drop-down fields needing defaults - would this "Id = 0" bit still be the same? I suppose I just want to properly understand this so I can use and reuse it and explain to colleagues with confidence that this is how to set defaults for drop-downs.

Thanks in advance,

Carla

    I can try.

    The odata sharepoint stuff is just standard when working with SharePoint.

    The ID and Value come in because each Choice option has an ID to the control and a Value.  Value is the text you see in the SP List and ID I believe is reflected by the order in that Choice list starting with 0.

    When working with choices you need to specify both.
