Who is the "Runner" of a Flow when adding a SharePoint item.

Hi,

I have a question regarding who Power Automate considers the "Runner" of a Flow.

For example, I have two Flows, A and B.

A is connected to a Power App and is triggered when a button on the App is clicked. Variables are passed to the Flow_A.Run() function and the information in these variables is used to add an Item to a SharePoint List.

B is triggered when an email is received. This email address is used for only one function within an organization. After being triggered, the flow will use the Office 365 Users action to gather information about the individual that sent the email as well as their manager. This information is then used to add an Item to a SharePoint List.

Both Flows are created by me.

In Flow A, the "Runner" seems to be the individual that has used the App and clicked the button. They are required to be given permissions to add an Item to the SharePoint List or the Flow will fail.

In Flow B, the "Runner" seems to be me. Eventhough, the Flow is only triggered when another user sends an email to the specified mailbox, and it's their information being gathered and used to add an Item to a SharePoint they are not required to be given permissions to add an item to the SharePoint List.

What is the reason(s) for this difference?

Automated trigger vs a user initiated. A power apps button is considered a manually triggered flow where someone knowingly pushes the button and consents to allowing the actions to access their profile. The email is an automated trigger therefore runs under the builders credentials. There are numerous cases where this trigger could be used and there not be an account to give access too (third party, a noreply adress, etc..) I use this trigger for power bi subscriptions, i configure the power bi report to go to a central mailbox, then when the email comes in it scrubs the subject line against a sharepoint list to see who the report needs to be sent to and in what format it needs to be sent. I couldn't do this if noreply@powerbi.com had to have permissions to the sharepoint list.
