Session reopening to see and edit the data previously filled in

Hi everyone,

I need a canvas application in which user - after closing the session - will be able to open the same session after some time, see the data filled in by him and edit them. The data will be collected in SQL database.

From what I see, it is possible to extract the session ID, but it changes with each new session opening. I was wondering if in case of sending the access to the application to the user, it would be possible to assign each user something like an ID that would be individual for each of them and thanks to which they could then log back into the application for the same session.

Is it possible to build such an application using Power Apps Canvas? If so, could I get any instruction/tips/ideas on how to achieve this?

Thank you

Two paths to look into for your solution:

    1. Power Apps can save and retrieve data from the device's storage using SaveData and LoadData functions, but this runs the risk of being out-of-sync with your data source.
    2. Many data sources already have, or can support, columns that indicate when a record was most recently edited and who did the edit. A Filter/Sort by time & user can give you the most recent record the user changed.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the response. I just would like to make sure – Power Apps Canvas doesn’t provide such a solution as session authentication or similar?

Power Apps does provide a session ID, but I believe this is to help Microsoft support the service. I am not aware of any functionality that allows service users to access past states/instances and use that data.
