I have a custom app from power pages that calls my co-pilot bot. Depending on where you are in the application, I want the bot to start on a particular topic, not the system default. I can do it inline but cannot see if it is possible to programatically hit the token endpoint and pass it an argument that invokes a certain topic.

You can attempt something similar to the following:
Establish a topic event featuring an "Event Received" trigger. This topic will be designed to listen to client events.
Within this topic, incorporate logic to redirect to specific topics based on event type
