Having trouble with my condition

Posted on by 4
Hello,

I am I trying to build a simple flow that will send an email out on the start and end date of every task created within my teams planner. I have the while set up done to the best of my abilities, but once I click to test it, I run into the issue where my condition shoots out a "No input" message. I've tweeked the condition so many times with no luck. Can anyone help me take a look?

Here is the failed message:

Here is what I have in the condition:

I did have just the "utcNow()" format in both dates but still received the error.

This is getting really frustrating.

@MO-27112045-0 The Start Date is null because the date isn't set. You can verify this by going to the task and taking a look at it. If the start date field is empty, it'll return a null value.

@creativeopinion So I Was able to pull out that my start date dynamic expression Outputs a null value. Why is that and how can I set it to the start date of a task? I noticed when creating a task the start date is never set. Would that have something to do with the dynamic expression being null? Please let me know if you need more screen shots or context.

@MO-27112045-0 I would recommend adding a Compose actions above your Condition action to output the dynamic content that you are using in your condition action. In your case it's the Start Date and Due Date dynamic content.

Review the outputs from your Compose actions to see if they are in fact equal to each other. If not, you'll need to adjust your expression so they are. The equals to operator is looking for an exact match.

However, since you are using an automated trigger in your flow, it's best practice to use Trigger Conditions. This way your flow will only trigger when the task created meets your criteria instead of triggering each time a new task is created.

To learn more about Trigger Conditions, check out this YT Tutorial:

If you are using an Automated Cloud flow trigger in your flow—you need to consider adding trigger conditions.
Do YOU 🫵 know what a trigger condition is?

Trigger conditions can be set in most flow triggers. These conditions you set must be true for the trigger to fire.
In this Power Automate tutorial, I’m going to show you how to use trigger conditions in your flows to control when your Power Automate flows trigger. If your plan has flow run limits—you can avoid triggering your flows unnecessarily by using trigger conditions.
I’ll cover four different flow examples that would benefit from trigger conditions:

⚡️ Triggering a flow when a column is changed to a specific value
⚡️ Triggering a Flow When an Event Updated or Deleted
⚡️ Triggering a Flow When a New Folder is Created
⚡️ Triggering a Flow When a Specific Email is Received

I’ll also show you a trick on how to easily create the expressions needed and give you a few tips on how to troubleshoot your flow.
