Saving Flows in Power Automate Desktop is quite slow

If I press the "Save" button in Power Automate Desktop,

it takes > 30 s to save my flow.

There is a related issue here:

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Power-Automate/Flow-saving-so-slow/td-p/589954

However, Power Automate Desktop should not depend on the internet connection for saving flows?

Why is it sooo slow?

It does in fact depend on internet connectivity, because it uploads all flows to the cloud. It doesn't really store anything locally on the machine, apart from some temporary local cache. It uploads the flow definition to the cloud every time you save, and it downloads it every time you want to edit your flow, or run it.

So, it depends heavily on the internet connectivity and the size and complexity of your flow - the larger your flow is (especially when it comes to UI interaction or images), the longer it takes to upload/download it.

Thank you for clarification. That explains at least part of the issue. (I would expect the flow to only consist of a few kB of text.)

That also means that I cannot use Power Automate Desktop for information that is classified as confidential. I am not allowed to use the cloud for it.

Does not make sense for me as a customer. (But for Micrsoft as a data octopus of course it does ;))

You can, but you then need to mark all the variables as sensitive. See here for reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform-release-plan/2021wave2/power-automate/sensitive-variables-power-automate-desktop
