Unable to extract all images from the PDF

Hello,

To extract images from a PDF, I created a flow in Power Automate Desktop. The flow is successful, and 95 percent of the images are extracted; however, I've noticed that a few images are not extracted, despite the fact that they are available in the PDF. What is the explanation for this? Please assist me in figuring out how to overcome this.

Is there a page restriction for extracting images from PDFs? When I tried to extract images from a 175-page PDF, it didn't extract for all of them, and from the pages it did extract, a few were missing. Please help

Thanks!

Tried to replicate scenario with a sample of pdf's (WEF_Future_of_Jobs_2020.pdf (weforum.org) and powerpoint presentations saved as pdf)

In both cases, the 'Extract images from PDF' didn't extracted all images (or, at least, what I initially considered as images) as reported. In the WEF report, for instance, tested extracting images from pages 2-20. This brought me only the photos and not the graphs. Same to ppt saved as pdf files.

I couldn't figure out a workaround, but my best guess on why this happens (based mainly in test with ppt files saved as pdfs) is that the method behind the action considers only the images added to the document which were originally image type extensions (bmp, png, jpg, etc.).
Maybe a Microsoft employee can further clarify which types of images are covered by this action?

    Hi @Anonymous ,

Thank you for your answer. I tried to check the format, the image format is in PNG, there are other images that were in PNG and flow extracted them successfully, I am not sure why it is not able to extract.

    Thanks!

    Hi @Anonymous ,

I have been waiting for a solution for this problem but none of the Microsoft employees responded. Is there a way to tag the Microsoft employees to bring this ticket to their attention? Can you please let me know if you are aware?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

The 'Extract images from PDF' action indeed only retrieves image objects from a PDF file. In the example of the PDF file mentioned above, the graphs can be interacted with - for instance their text is selectable, so they are not considered images per se.

In your scenario, is there a PDF file you can share, so as to check if there are any image limitations that need to be investigated?

    Hi @John_Mavridis ,

Thank you for giving response. The document i was trying to extract images has copyrighted content, which i cannot share in the open platform. Is there any other way for me to share the file only with you? Please let me know.

    Thanks!
