We recently announced new Dataverse auditing features including the audit retention period and new ways to delete no longer required audit data.

We would love to hear your feedback! This community post is for all the feedback about the new auditing features.

Thank you!

This helps, I was wondering the same thing. It would be helpful if this was in the documentation as well Free up storage space - Power Platform | Microsoft Docs

This also brings up an interesting question. What if I have a retention policy set and then later extend that retention? If I initially set a retention of 30 days, but if after a couple days I decide to change that to 90 days, what happens to the logs created between the changes to the policy? Will they follow the original retention and still be deleted at the end of the 30 days? Or will they now be retained for 90 days?

    Thank You

    Hi @HenrikBo ,

The Audit Log Retention will apply to any new logs created after you set the retention period. Pre-existing logs won't be affected. The logs with the retention period will be removed by a background job running multiple times a day picking up any records whose retention period has "expired" since the last run of the same job. This process is separate from the BulkDelete and hence is not visible from the System Jobs.

    Hi Team,

When changing the Audit Log Retention to e.g. 30 days when will cleanup of the audit log run?

Can't see any System Jobs for the task and in my test environment no Audit Logs has been deleted yet.

Note: It's about a week ago since I change Audit Log Retention for "Forever" to "30 Days" in my Test Environment

    Thanks,

    Henrik

@Rock This is one of the features we are beginning to tackle for the next semester (October Release Wave 22). Stay tuned!

Hi @ChrisPiasecki : Thank you for the kind words and the feedback about additional deletion scenarios. You can use the BulkDelete API to delete data based on your individual scenarios. I added a link to a sample in the blog post (Announcing new Dataverse auditing features | Microsoft Power Apps). Let me know if this provides the needed flexibility.

Capability to easily export audit logs for archiving to secondary SQL databases would be very useful.

    Hi @munzinge,

Excited that this feature finally has rolled out! When it comes to deleting audit logs, currently you can select either a table or a date range, but not both. Being able to quickly delete from a set of tables from a certain time period would be useful.

    Regards,

    Chris
