Update blank/Null value to fields in database

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Scenario : I have saved an item in a table and later decided to remove data from some fields (Date field, User field etc). Edit the item aand Save it back to datasource (SQL database)

Issue : PowerApps does not update the field to empty / null value. The field value remains but if I try to update field with a random string the update works. Blank() works for a new insert.

    Hi @Anonymous ,

    Do you share the update code you are using just to suggest based on your code.

    Hi @Anonymous

    I just tried and turned out You need to turn on formula level error management under experimental features.

    See the section 'Writing Nulls' in the following blog:

    and the patch command for blank works

    Patch(
     [@'[dbo].[StudentTest]'],
     LookUp(
     [@'[dbo].[StudentTest]'],
     StudentID = BrowseGallery1.Selected.StudentID
     ),
     {
     UserName: Blank()
     }
    )

    The code that I'm using is, in update properties: If(Trim(DataCardEdit.Text)=""; Blank();DataCardEdit.Text)

    I turned on "Formula Level Error Management" under experimental features on setting and my code work. I didn't use patch but If(Trim(DataCardEdit.Text)=""; Blank();DataCardEdit.Text).

    Thanks.

    MS Recommendation   / Some People suggesting this feature .

    Unfortunately ' Formula-level error management' being turned on caused an issue to the 'OnStart ' deep linking. All deep links stuck with 'Getting your data' upon opening the links. Any other way/solution to update SP choice field value to null/blank? I'd like users to cancel existing choice and save back to SP. Right now it does cancel in combo box but doesn't save and retains the old value.
