Customise Ribbon in Model Driven Apps

Hi There Community.

I'm new to Power Apps having only starting to look at this over the last few weeks. So apologies if I have missed if this feature is documented.

For a Model Driven App, each Main View and Main Form comes with a standard Ribbon Tool Bar. I have seen how its possible to add your own custom buttons and options to the command bar; however is it possible to Hide any of the Out of the box options. For example Show Chart, Share, Run Report etc. Whilst I can see the value of these in some scenarios, this functionality may not always be applicable to the context. Hence being able to hide them would be of value.

I'm not seen how this is possible and can't see any options when navigating to the Edit Command Bar option e.g. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/model-driven-apps/use-command-designer

Hi @dgaskellgw ,

Well, that's standard out-of-the-box buttons that can be used in variety of methods.
But if you need to hide some buttons then
Step 1: Create a Solution and insert only that Table
Step 2: Go to Ribbon Workbench and open that solution
Step 3: Once that table's ribbon buttons are displayed on screen. Find your Ribbon Button on the Form section.
Step 4: Right click on the Button you want to hide and select "Hide". A Red cross will appear on that button indicating hidden.
Step 5: Save and Publish customization.

That's it.

I had tried that approach and it suggests this is all Read Only, See attached. The context menu options are all disabled? I believe I'm an Admin and the owning App Maker. I am using the latest Style application (e.g. Recent Wave styling improvements)

I have a Solution with many artefacts to support the MDA (5 tables, multiple flows etc). Is this where I went wrong from you Step 1? I thought a Solution could contain many artefacts.

I haven't used this Ribbon customizer yet.
But do try from XRMToolBox -> within that you will find Ribbon Workbench

I’ve downloaded that earlier today as it comes up a fair bit. I’ll take a look and see where I get with it. Presume this toolbox is an overlay which offers capabilities which aren’t available in the standard UI? So offering configuration options that’s otherwise isn’t supported out the box?

Hi @dgaskellgw ,
XRMToolbox is still the classic and still works.
The modern designer (standard UI) is still pretty new having potential limitations but doing advanced stuff will still be relied on the software that holds the title to get things done whatsoever.
The legacy and most preferred used Ribbon editor is Ribbon Workbench module in XRMToolbox which is still most stable in getting most from out-of-the-box

Thanks for your help so far, its been a great pointer towards the XRMToolbox .

I have managed to start to customise the ribbon for one of my tables to trial this feature. However there is 1 remaining ribbon command i'm unsure whether you can hide as I see no options for this.

Do you have experience with hiding the Show Chart command (which turns into Hide Chart when toggled)> My table has no charts, hence would always be empty

The "Show Chart" button is a built-in un-customizable command button which could not be hidden or deleted.

Hi @dgaskellgw ,

Show Chart button is not in XrmToolBox, but its somewhere inside the dataverse itself.
I had seen long back, there's an option to show chart visuals for the records.
I'll try to find if I get but even I'm not sure if its doable on all entities.

Hi @dgaskellgw ,

I checked but couldn't find the option.
All I could find is this toggle but I don't think this is the functionality you need.

I also checked ribbon designers but that button isn't available. It's default functionality which cannot be removed 😅

But rest of the things worked 👍🏻

@Ethan_R Thanks very much for looking; I also came across that toggle which I believe is a way to hide all charts if you have created any against the table.
