Hi there,

I have a client they have the following background & requirements :

Background

  1. M365 E5
  2. Power Platform Seeded license (all with Standard license with no standalone Power Platform license )
  3. The client does not have an Azure DevOps subscription.
  4. Data Source: SharePoint Online (SPO)

Requirements

  1. The client wants to follow all Power Platform best practices.
  2. Security is managed with SharePoint Online and each department will have its own AAD Groups.

Questions

  1. Question 1: What are the best practices to achieve ALM with SPO?

  2. Question 2: Article on ALM with SPO

    Author describes using
    1. Environment Variables Setup in Development – Data Source
    2. Use Environment Variables in Power Apps.
    3. Use Environment Variables in  Power Automate
    4.  Updating SharePoint Sites in Target Environments – Deployment

Does this above approach work with your power platform experience?

I would add that you should also look at using Connection References wherever possible. other than that, yes that will work as an ALM process.  The other issue that they will run into is that without any premium licensing they will have no capacity to make additional environments, other than Developer environments that are not subject to Capacity. Normally, you would use a mix of Developer and Sandbox environments for Dev and Test environments. But they won't be able to do that. Each user can have up to 3 Developer environments.

Thanks a lot, @Pstork1 for your insightful input. Your input on connection reference is so useful.

The client bought the premium license a couple of weeks ago and this will be an enterprise app.

Question:  As a premium license does have the capacity, would the client leverage the production environment instead of the developer or  sandbox environments

So if they have capacity then I would recommend making a Developer environment for Dev, a Sandbox environment for Test, and a Production environment for Production.
