First of all I was to ack that this is complete trash DB/List design and that this could be better created with a relational DB or SPL. That being said I am trying to stick to one list in SP as the people managing this are not able to grasp relational DB ideas at the current time. This is an in-house app and it is being used to track pallets of items stored on racks in a warehouse.
SP List called Storage has columns SectionName, RackNumber, Spot1, Spot2, Spot3, Spot4, Spot5, Spot6, Spot7, Spot8
Each of the "Spots" holds a pallet which holds items of similar type inside them. For this application what is inside does not need to be tracked and has no bearing on the application at all.
The "Spots" data is of type string and is a multiline string. This was done because there are 5 fields they want to track and without using relational DB structures I had to eliminate a degree of difficulty. This means that the "Spots" hold something similar to an address in form:
First Line
Second Line
Third Line
Fourth Line
Fifth Line
This will make searching relatively easy (or so I hope) as all 5 separate fields that I would normally have to search are now one field that can be searched. My issue is iterating over all the rows and columns of the list. What I want to do is create a list of Racks that contain a substring that the user enters into a text/search box. For example, if Rack 3 has the matching string in Spot5's label I want to show it. If a Rack has no "Spots" that contain the substring then I dont want to show them. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated!
