Display a lookup field in a gallery

I have a canvas app gallery from a table named "Grain_Transfers" that I need to display a lookup field in that table called "Contract_ID". The lookup is tied to a table named "Contracts" and the field in that table is also "Contract_ID". 

 

The goal is to simply  display the saved "Contract_ID" field value listed in the "Grain_Transfers" table.

 

I realize that the gallery doesn't support this directly.

 

I've tried several possible solutions, but am just not getting something right as I can't get this working.

 

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    I may have just solved this... I used ThisItem.Contract_ID.Contract_ID and it appears to work as desired. I am doing this correctly? I would also like to understand Why it works.

    Hi @TJJones ,

     

    I am doing this correctly? Yes.

     

    ThisItem means  the current record in the gallery.

     

    The first Contract_ID is the name of the lookup column . ThisItem.Contract_ID means the corresponding record in the Contracts associated with the current record in the gallery.

     

    The second Contract_ID is the column in Contracts.
