Sharepoint powerapp form dropdown to update value in different list

Hi everyone

I am creating my first Sharepoint form in powerapps and ive hit a stumbling block. I have 2 lists,

-Companies

-Maintenance

The Companies list has the following 2 fields

-Name (choice column)

-Insurance expiry (date column)

The Maintenance list has 4 columns

-Name (text column)

-Start Date (date column)

-End Date (date column)

-Works (multi line text)

I have created a Sharepoint powerapp form for the 'Maintenance' list and what i would like to do is use the choice 'Name' dropdown from the 'Companies' list and have that populate the 'Name' field on the 'Maintenance' list.

Is this possible at all? Im quite new to PowerApps so learning my way round it slowly.

Appreciate any advice

    Hi,
It's possible. If you are using a form, you will have to unlock Title_DataCard to make changes to it.
After doing that you can add a dropdown to this data card and add below formula to items property of it:
    Choices(Companies.Name).
In the Update property of your Title_DataCard, you can add dropdown1.Selected.Value (Assuming the dropdown you have added is named as dropdown1)

    HI @iamrufus ,

Isn't it easier to then turn the 'Name' column in the Maintenance list into a LookUp type?

    HI @iamrufus

Go inside Power apps Studio and do the following :

    1. Click on data source

    2. Scroll under Connectors

    3. Click on SharePoint

This will help navigate you to select the SharePoint site and than select Companies list

Now, in 'Items' Property of Name field use below code
    Sort(Distinct('Companies','Name'),Result,Ascending)

To make it easy - you can keep Name as 'single line of text' type column.

'Choice' type columns are 'complex' column - might give you hard time somewhere.

    Hope it helps.

Hi @BCBuizer, i dont think that would work as you cant have a look up column against a choice column.
