Param is not working in Sharepoint Canvas App

Hello,

I do not understand why I am not able to read the Parameter I am passing from one Canvas app to another.  I can see that I am sending the parameter (projectName) in the URL:

.../sites/jdp/Design_process/Prog_data_store/Lists/Project_Storage/NewForm.aspx?RootFolder=&projectName=BHS_AVC_CP

This is the code I am using to read the incoming parameter:

But I am not able to see in the app.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!  -Erik

    Hi @Erik63 :

I'm afraid that param is not available in embedded scenarios too.

    vbofengmsft_0-1648447137372.png

The workaround is using a URI like this

    https://apps.powerapps.com/play/{APPID}?tenantId={tenantId}&projectName=BHS_AVC_CP

    vbofengmsft_1-1648447351606.png

You can find the app id in the app details

    vbofengmsft_2-1648447402098.png

You can find tenantid in the web link of other apps in the default environment.

    Hello @v-bofeng-msft ,

I am using this formula for OnSuccess:

    Launch("https://apps.powerapps.com/play/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?tenantId=46c98d88-e344-4ed4-8496-4ed7712e555d",

    {projectName:FinalName.Text,projectType:ProjectType.Selected.Value,boardType:BoardTypeAcronym.Text}

In this launch the parameter “projectType” is a value of a choice field the other 2 are text fields.  Although I can see that it is getting the correct parameter in the PowerApp for boardType and projectName, it is not passing anything for projectType.

    https://apps.powerapps.com/play/providers/Microsoft.PowerApps/apps/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?projectName=CP_BB&boardType=BB

    Thank you!

       -Erik

    Hi @Erik63 :

Could you please check whether the value of ProjectType.Selected.Value is null or not?

    Hi @v-bofeng-msft ,

This is the function in the text box "projectType": "projectType :" & ProjectType.Selected.Value

And this is the content of the box before it is submitted:

    Erik63_0-1648609569415.png

This is the launch URL: https://apps.powerapps.com/play/providers/Microsoft.PowerApps/apps/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?projectName=FED_BB&boardType=BB

I have tried this with several input types, and it seems like it only works with strings.  The projectName that does append to the URL is a concatenation of entries, so I tried concatenate( projectType).  When I do this the URL now shows the parameter, but it has no value.

    https://apps.powerapps.com/play/providers/Microsoft.PowerApps/apps/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?projectName=FED_BB&projectType=&boardType=BB

    Thanks,

        -Erik

    Hi @Erik63 ,

Please add .Text to get the value of the text box:

    concatenate( projectType.Text)

    Thanks @BCBuizer ,

but that does not work since projectType is a choice field, and I have tried concatenate(projectType.Selected.Value) and that does not work either.

This is not something really wanted to do, it was just a test to see if it made any difference in allowing parameters to be attached to the URL.

    Thanks,

         -Erik

    Hi @Erik63 ,

Got confused by the projectCode label and ProjectCode combbox 😉

What you may do is to have a hidden label somewhere with ProjectType.Selected.Value as the Text property. The refer to that label from your Launch() function:

    Launch("https://apps.powerapps.com/play/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?tenantId=46c98d88-e344-4ed4-849...",

    {projectName:FinalName.Text,projectType:HiddenLabel.Text,boardType:BoardTypeAcronym.Text}

Thank you @BCBuizer., however I have tried that one before, and it too does not work.

    Setup

    • Hidden label (ProjectTypeVar):

    Erik63_0-1649276109228.png

    • A textbox to confirm that the “ProjectTypeVar” was assigned:

    Erik63_1-1649276212923.png

    • The change to the Launch:

    Erik63_2-1649276266285.png

    Results

    • The ProjectTypeVar is assigned

    Erik63_3-1649276349765.png

    • However, the generated URL still does not have the projectType in the parameter:

    https://apps.powerapps.com/play/e99bc44c-2497-4383-bdf3-ddf607604555?tenantId=46c98d88-e344-4ed4-8496-4ed7712e255d%3F&projectName=FED_BB&boardType=BB
