As of this week I am NOT able to edit apps at work. The environment is ######(Default) (Upgrade). I am able to edit the apps at home where the environment is ######(Default). What is the difference?
The CDS database in your environment is being upgraded. To do that a copy is made of your existing environment and one of them is locked down. That's where you can't edit. For most people this was completed a month or so ago. If yours is still in this state tomorrow you should open a support call so Microsoft can look into it. I've seen a number of environments that didn't upgrade cleanly and required intervention by Microsoft.
