This is probably a really dumb question, but it's bothering me, so I'll ask anyway 🙂

On scrollable screens, the data card has a button to Add Section:

What is the use case of multiple sections? Is it really just about grouping controls together? If so, is there a benefit to doing that instead of grouping controls like one would on a normal screen?

hi there
i had this same question and to the most part i have come to learn it is all about the user experience. it is more intuitive then presenting new screen or changing visibility of lets say a pop up message. im sure we all have different use cases for it. in tablet mode you can have the user flip to images and show the resulting section as they flip through, so yip to me its a bout user experience, that fluid-ness.

Scrollable screens definitely do enhance the user experience. But I'm asking more specifically what the benefit is to adding additional sections in the scrollable screen as opposed to traditional grouping mechanisms.

got you, the sections are a bit at a higher level as the grouping/containers as you do not have to consider its location on the screen. i guess from a certain perspective you can achieve what the same with groups or container - just a tad more work (almost like the section is a group in a component if that makes sense)

It's not a dumb question 🙂

One of the main use case scenario of sections is to support the presentation of a 'tiled' interface.

As an example, let's imagine a screen with six sections and a canvas column setting of 2.

Each section (or card) would represent a tile. Using this mechanism, it's easy to apply consistent heights to all the cards, and at runtime they all scroll as one unit. We can also reconfigure the canvas to show 3 cards per row by simply increasing the column setting to 3.
