Future proof of; Canvas Vs Model Driven Vs Portals

I know that in Power Apps we have those 3 main categories to start with:-

 

  1. Canvas
  2. Model Driven
  3. Portals

     

    I do know that Canvas are used to build fully customized app (standalone or customized SharePoint list form), where Model Driven is used if we want to build everything on DataVerse and manage it through Power App model driven. Finally, if we want to build external portals that can be accessed by anonymous , internal and external users then we can go for Portal.

     

    but my question is about the future proof for those 3 categories? as i am planning to build many applications for a client. Personally, i like to use Canvas app with SharePoint, so is this option have the same future proof as the other approaches? or there are approaches that are taking over others?

    Canvas apps are not going away.  MS is working to merge the functionality of Canvas apps and Model Driven apps into a single comprehensive model, but that is a slowly evolving effort. Power Pages (the new name for Portal) has a completely different purpose and will not replace either of the other two.
