Hello All,

We need a tool in order to easily manage Security Roles inside all environments.

Before starting the developement of our own application, I was curious to test some Power Cat Apps or community apps.

First tool Canvas App

powerapps-tools/Apps/Security Management - Canvas App at master · microsoft/powerapps-tools · GitHub

Adv : Gives exactly what we are looking for.

Cons : Need to be deployed in each Environment which is impossible with DLP restrictions in PROD environments

Second tool Modern Driven App with Custom pages

powerapps-tools/Apps/Security Risk Assessment at master · microsoft/powerapps-tools · GitHub

Adv : Gives exactly what we are looking for.

Cons : Need to be deployed in each Environment. Have a lot of other functionality no needed for our client. also, need to install a community component which will never be approved from the client.

Do you have any other suggestion of ready to use apps ? Does the COE offer this ability ?  If not, what do you suggest ?

I'm thinking to develop a canvasapp inside the COE env that:

  • Shows the list of all Environment
  • Show a Gallery of all Security Roles
  • Show the user inside a selected role
  • Count number of users
  • Give the ability to add or remove a user

Do you think that this will be a good idea ?

It seems you wanted something centrally managed for all environments. If that is case, i would build something custom. Also, while building you could re-use the logic from some of the solutions you mentioned so you are reinventing the wheel.

I like how you are approaching the solution.  Keep it simple and make changes in future if needed.

You might also need to notify the system admins of envs if you are adding/removing it.

Before build, make sure you are clear with who will be using the tool and what it does etc.

    Good Luck.
