Can Custom Copilots respond in other language than English?

Good day,

Can custom copilot be set to respond to the language used in the user query? It recognizes the question currently but it always responds in English.

I have tried using the Language settings, set it to German, then downloaded and customized the "localizations" file, re-uploaded it. But still no success.

Is that even possible at this point?

The authoring language support is available for the German

Add a Language Detection Step - Use a Power Fx to detect the language of the user query and set a variable like varLang. Then, pass this variable into your prompt to instruct Copilot to respond in that language

Respond in the same language as the user input: {varLang}

Could you please give more information of how I could do that?

I am not sure how I can detect the language of the user query. I found only Language() function I could use in PowerFx but it does not accept any parameters. So, it doesn't really work for me.

I found a way to detect the user query language via custom prompt. However, adding additional instructions to the custom copilot does not seem to work - I tried adding something like "RULE: Always respond in {variable from the prompt}."

Maybe the issue is that all the knowledge sources used are in English?

Hi,

If you add additional languages in Settings > Languages and download the localizations files they only take care of static information like stuff in Topics, Message Nodes, Question Nodes etc.
The Generative AI part will be default answer in the language of the client. So if your client like Teams or Edge or where ever you publish your agent is in English your agent will reply in English even if you ask the question in German, and usually regardless of the language of the stuff in it's knowledge sources.

Dewain Robinson has a great video over on Youtube that describes how to properly detect the language the users uses and reply in the same language.

Basically you need to set the System.User.Language variable to the language you want, and that language needs to be added to the Languages section under Settings.

the setting in this image makes my agent answer any question in Norwegian.

That actually answers my question.

The other issue I am having is that some of my custom messages are missing from the "localizations" file and are not translated.

Did you came across that kind of an issue?

I've done a few multilanguage agent with a couple of Topics and custom messages but have not had any issues with some of it missing when I export the files.

Not sure why that would be missing. I would probably try and make a small change or something to the missing bit's and see if that refreshes it somehow.

It seems like the custom/static messages from my topics were not included in the localisations file because they were added to the system topics rather than in custom topics (as it should be). After changing that they have appeared in the localisations file.

Using the method above to change the User.Language it works when testing on my side. But when user from Germany tries to use the custom copilot they are getting an error saying:

"An error has occurred. Error code: AIModelActionBadRequest Conversation Id: ******* Time (******).

I feel this has something to do with the language locale of the specific user and the error triggers from the custom prompt which recognizes the language and sets the User.Language variable.

Any ideas please?
