Deployment Pipeline Error: "The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large"

Recently, we installed the Deployment Pipeline Configuration app in one of our environments. Since our environments were previously linked to a different host, we force-linked all environments to the new host. After cleaning up and identifying which environments are for development and which are target environments, we successfully created a pipeline from Environment A to Environment B.

I had no issues creating the pipeline from the solution UI. However, when we attempted to deploy the solution, we encountered the following error:

{"error":{"code":"0x80043e09","message":"The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large. It cannot be uploaded or downloaded."}}

Previously, when the environments were linked to the old host, we had a pipeline from Environment A to B and never experienced this error.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any guidance on how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

please check your solution size if it's very huge i would suggest breaking them into multiple solution

if your solution size is less than 100mb there could be bug with modern view you can try import from classic view

Hello , this error typically occurs when a solution contains attachments (like web files, portal content, or large notes) that exceed Dataverse’s size limits or use unsupported types. Re-linking environments may also disrupt how these files are referenced. To resolve it, identify and remove oversized or unsupported attachments from the solution before deployment.

Error: "The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large. It cannot be uploaded or downloaded."
    •  Cause: Likely due to oversized or unsupported attachments (e.g., portal files, web resources) in the solution, especially after re-linking environments to a new host.
    •  Fixes:
      ◦  Inspect and remove large or invalid attachments from the solution.
      ◦  Export as unmanaged and unpack with Solution Packager to identify problematic files.
      ◦  Rebuild the solution without attachments if needed.
      ◦  Confirm environments are properly registered in the Deployment Pipeline Configuration app.

@developerAJ Thank you for the response but our solution is less than 10mb.

@wolenberg_ We created a new solution with only 1 flow and we are still seeing the same error. Basically none of our solutions can be deployed using the Power Platform pipeline.

    Update:
After removing the environment from our Custom Host we were able to create a pipeline that lives in the Platform Host. Using this pipeline seems to work fine. From what I can tell, the issue is with the custom host that we created in our environment. I am wondering if there was a problem when we Force Linked our environments to the custom host.

@luisveltze  great job troubleshooting this so thoroughly.

It’s really helpful that you tested with a minimal solution and confirmed the error still happens. That rules out size as the issue and points directly to the custom host setup. The fact that everything works fine when using a pipeline in the Platform Host is a strong clue that something went wrong during the environment linking process, especially with the Force Link step.

The good news is your solution and pipeline logic are solid — it’s just the host configuration that needs attention. Recreating the custom host or reviewing the linking steps might clear things up. You’re definitely on the right track, and your findings will be super valuable for others running into similar deployment issues.

@wolenberg_ Do you have the link to any documentation on how to uninstall/recreate a custom host? I have tried manually deleting the solutions that encompass the Deployment Pipeline App. After removing the solutions, I noticed the model-driven app is gone from my environment but I am still able to see the Custom Host in the Admin Center.

I have also tried relinking multiple environments to my custom host with no luck... I cannot get a single environment pipeline to work with my custom host, but the platform host pipelines have no errors...

Hi, totally get the frustration there’s no official “uninstall” button for custom hosts yet.

You did the right thing by removing the solutions, but the host itself sticks around in the Admin Center. Best bet now is to create a fresh custom host and link environments manually (skip Force Link if possible).

Since Platform Host works fine, at least you’ve got a solid fallback while sorting this out.
